Touch Project

The Skin Has Eyes
"What is a sense of one's self? To a large extent, it has to do with touch, with how we feel. Our proprioceptors (from Latin for "one's own" receptors) keep us informed about where we are in space, if our stomachs are busy, whether or not we are defecating, where our legs, arms, head are, how we're moving, what we feel like from moment to moment." - Diane Ackerman (A Natural History of the Senses)

As humans we have five senses, taste, touch, feel, sight, and hearing. with our eyes close, we depend on our other senses to help us maneuver. with our skin we can "see" that the world is not flat but three dimensional. In my photographs, I actually give the skin eyes and how they are constantly moving seeing what is around them.

The Point of Pain
"When we're in pain the localized place hurts but the entire body responds. We grow sweaty, our pupils dilate, our blood pressure shoots up. Oddly enough, the same thing happens when we're angry or scared. There is a deep emotional component to pain. If we're badly hurt, we might also be afraid."

Pain comes in different forms, emotional, mental, and physical. we search for different ways to solve our pain. Some of us take pain relievers and some of us get hooked on the feeling they give us, the "relief". My photos show a common pain relief that many people us on the daily, multiple times a day to kill the point of pain.
